Would Bondi Rescue ever consider a drama series?

With the US considering a reboot of Baywatch (apparently), there were ever any breakthrough thoughts Bondi Rescue in a drama series?

“We have,” said CJZ producer Nick Murray TV tonight.

“The actual show is already so dramatic in the way we film it. It’s a lifeguard character study… I mean, you could do a version of it but you’d have to shoot it on Bondi Beach and I can tell you there’s not a lot of room for Bondi Beach to be the real thing and the drama at the same time.

“The beach is noticeably small. It’s 800 meters long, which is why it’s so cool for us because you can cover the whole beach with two or three crews.”

Bondi Rescue is an extraordinary esports success story, broadcast in the US on Netflix, in Europe on Nat Geo and in over 100 countries worldwide.

In its 17th season, Murray paid tribute to his production team.

bondi it’s the longest running show on Channel 10 now. It’s an amazing legacy, working with a third party, (lifesaver/creator) Ben Davies has been amazing. (CJZ producer) Michael Cordell is still in hand. (Producer) Rick McPhee has been involved since the early days of that show. We have a great, long-standing partnership with Waverly Council as well.”

He added, “Access doc is a lot harder than it looks. It’s not just about showing up and pointing a camera at something.”

Bondi Rescue airs at 7.30pm on Friday the 10th.
