Veteran US character actor Paxton Whitehead, whose credits include Back to school, Crazy about you AND Friendsdied, aged 85.
Her son, Charles Whitehead, died at a hospital in Virginia on Friday, she said The Hollywood Reporter.
Whitehead was known for playing stuffy types in movies and TV shows, including uptight neighbor Hal Conway Crazy about you from 1992 to 1999 and as Mr. Waltham, Rachel’s (pictured left) boss at Bloomingdale’s on Friends in 1998. Other credits included Magnum, PI, The A-Team, Hart to Hart, Ellen, The West Wing, Frasier, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Dinosaurs AND Murder, he wrote.
Movies included Back to school AND Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Baby Boom, The Adventures of Huck Finn, My Boyfriend Returns, The Duke, Kate and Leopold The Aristocrat and was prolific in stage roles in the West End and on Broadway.
In a 2017 interview, Whitehead said that he liked performing farces the most. “Everyone says (they) are hard to do, but it depends,” he told her. “Either you have a knack for it or you don’t. I think it’s hard for some people. I found it not that difficult. I do not know. I just seemed to respond to it.
