Veteran American actor Nicolas Coster, best known for daytime drama Santa Barbara, died, aged 89.
His daughter Dinneen wrote on Facebook: “There is great sadness in my heart tonight. My father, actor Nicolas Coster, died in Florida at 9:01 pm in the hospital. Be inspired by his artistic achievements and know that he was a real actor! I will remember him as always doing the best of him and as a great father. Rest in peace!”
UK-born Coster has over 170 acting credits in television.
He played the self-destructive Lionel Lockridge Santa Barbara from 1984 to 1988, but returned in 1990 and remained until the show’s cancellation in January 1993.
He played the role of Chief of Detectives JE Carson The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo and later starred as the millionaire father of Lisa Whelchel’s Blair Warner The facts of life.
Cotter amassed guest spots on daytime dramas Another world, as the world turns, one life to live AND All my children with primetime appearances on dozens of series including The Defenders, Charlie’s Angels, Little Blue Knight, Little House on the Prairie, The Rockford Files, Dallas, Hart to Hart, Wonder Woman, Magnum PI AND Quincy ME
More recently, he has appeared in a recurring role in a crime film The bay.
Film credits included All the President’s Men, Stir Crazy, Reds, Titanic, The Desert Rats AND Sea of Lost Ships as well as Broadway stage roles in productions with Lawrence Olivier and Elizabeth Taylor.
