The former X Factor singer is accused of murder

An ex X Factor singer was charged with the alleged murder of a child in 2018.

Mitchell Calloway, 37, who was one of the talent show’s top 12 singers of 2011, was arrested this morning at a Bowraville home over the death of a nine-month-old baby girl in 2018.

Age carries over 911 was called to a house in Binnaway in central west NSW, but a nine-month-old girl did not respond. She was taken to Coonabarabran hospital but died shortly after.

Police issued a plea for help over the “suspicious” death a week ago after new information was provided to investigating officers.

Calloway did not apply for bail today in Macksville Local Court, which was later refused.

In 2011, she mainly sang country songs The X factor, being led by Natalie Bassingthwaighte in the Over 25s group. Judge Guy Sebastian also criticized her attitude towards the crew at the time, before later apologizing for saying them on air. Calloway finished 7th after losing to Johnny Ruffo in a season won by Reece Mastin.

Calloway is due to appear for next mention on June 13 at Coffs Harbour.
