The ending of the German broadcaster is scripted, cites the streaming competition

German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, which has commissioned titles such as Das Boot, Babylon Berlin, Munich Games AND 8 days will no longer carry out scheduled programs from next year

Expiration reports a note from Sky Deutschland head Devesh Raj confirmed that it will “stop producing new scripted Sky Originals from 2024 onwards”, but shows in production will be completed.

Sky Deutschland’s scripted originals team is expected to be shut down once these shows have been delivered.

Raj’s note states that “the cost of producing scripted content has continued to rise, driven in part by the emergence of a myriad of new streaming providers, making it more difficult for drama series to succeed.”

A spokesperson for Sky Deutschland said: “Since the launch of Sky Originals in DACH, the entertainment industry and content landscape has changed rapidly, along with ever-evolving consumer behaviour. We know our customers well and are confident that our position as the best provider of premium content, acquired, an unmissable range of sports and all the best entertainment apps. With this in mind, we have chosen to focus our investments in these areas and will not continue production of new scripted Sky Originals from 2024 onwards. We would like to thank all our partners and colleagues for their significant contributions to the production of Sky Originals over the past few years.”

Sky Deutschland has also broadcast Australian titles such as Wentworth AND Doctor Doctor where it was screened as The boy of the heart.
