Some media reported a ‘Master Chef finalist’ Paul Douglas Frost guilty of 43 charges in a majority verdict by a NSW District Court jury.
According to reports, “Frost was a finalist in the cooking contest Master Chef in 2009 and his father coached Olympic champion Ian Thorpe.
The former swim coach was found guilty of 43 child sexual abuse charges relating to 11 different children at a swim school in south-west Sydney during the 1990s and 2000s.
However by linking it to Master Chef in the report is probably unfair to the 10 show.
Frost was never a finalist in 2009, the show’s first season.
It didn’t even make the Top 20.
The first seasons of Master Chef it usually featured 3 episodes where judges Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and George Calombaris (plus host Sarah Wilson in S1) famously “audited” hopefuls vying for an apron and a chance in the then Top 20.
In the first season 7500 people applied to participate in the show.
Paul Frost had a brief time in front of the camera during the cooking competitions staged at the Carriegeworks in Eveleigh but failed the vote and never set foot in the first Master Chef then cooks in Alexandria, NSW.
Over 15 seasons (and spinoffs) the show has had its share of controversies and contestants in trouble with the law, but media reports are incorrect in referring to this man as a “finalist”…they were Julie Goodwin, Poh Lin Yeow as the country remembers well.
Frost faces a sentencing hearing in August.
