The Australian critic wins at the Los Angeles Press Club Awards

Sydney Morning Herald e The Melbourne era Cultural Editor-in-Chief Michael Idato was named Print Journalist of the Year at the Los Angeles Press Club Awards.

She won ahead of Variety’s Tim Gray and The Hollywood Reporter’s Rebecca Keegan.

Idato also took home two separate awards for an interview with Priscilla Presley and a feature film The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Idato, a Los Angeles resident, was the only foreign journalist nominated for the prestigious Print Journalist of the Year award for publications with circulations exceeding 50,000.

The judges noted, “With astute analyzes of the entertainment industry and its products, such as movies, and revealing interviews with filmmakers, Idato increases his readers’ understanding of a wide range of topics. These writing skills earn him the Print Journalist of the Year award.

Los Angeles resident Idato has written for SMH for 24 years and has served as a consultant to Wentworth.
