Adelaide single mum Kat voted ‘Best Parenting Style’ in season finale of Nine’s Parental orientation.
The mom of twins, 49, was voted out by cast mates for her “Honest Parenting” style.
11 other groups of parents chose his style after one last challenge in the wilderness with the finalists (Team, American and Lighthouse).
“I’m the first to admit I’m not the perfect parent, but who is? Crikey, my daughter was the example of what not to do in the online game challenge and gave away her address! But that was as much my mistake as hers. We both learned an invaluable lesson that day, and our healing is what I’m patting each other on the back for,” she said.
“Having more regular conversations about this sort of thing is now the norm thanks to this experience and the tools and tactics I’ve adopted from this elite group of humans.”
Host Ally Langdon said, “What an emotional roller coaster this season has been. We laughed and cried, but that sums up parenting, right? No two days or scenarios are the same. I admire Kat for staying true to her style throughout and showing Australia that it’s just as important for parents to celebrate the ups as it is to learn from the downs. I’m over the moon for her.
Expert Dr Justin Coulson said: “What a big coup for Kat. She fearlessly brought a gritty and authentic approach to this season that was no easy feat, especially with tough topics like bullying, stranger danger, adult content, and sibling rivalry put to the test.
“The icing on the cake this season has been introducing some incredible people raising incredible children, and that’s all we can ask and hope for.”
There was no ‘award’ for being voted best but Kat now sits alongside the best style of 2021, Penny and Daniel from NSW as Free Range Parents.
Parental orientation was produced by Eureka Productions for 9Network.
