Screen Forever 2023: Is ABC Improving Diversity in Panel Shows?

Last week at the Screen Forever conference, ABC was asked about whether it’s bringing more diversity to its shows.

Nick Hayden, ABC The entertainment chief said: ‘We launched a show last year, or maybe 2021, where he hosted Alex Lee, which sadly didn’t work out… a show (coming soon) is not a panel show but it’s 50/50 men and women, a third of the talent on the air is diverse. There are a couple of shows that I can’t mention that are also incredibly diverse. Jan Fran is now in the stable of entertainment talent…

“Because there are so (many) long-form shows… if you look Gruen they are three white men, but that won’t change. …. but you will see that every other point in casting that show, or with a similar show Wedges and grainsdiversity is at the fore.”

He added, “This is a huge conversation that happened within ABC and I suspect across the spectrum of broadcasters, because audiences demand it.”
