Seven Network Head of Drama, Julie McGauran, was asked at Screen Forever this week whether the era of long-running local dramas like All Saints was it over now?
“We don’t all wish we had another one All Saints OR Full of beams? Surprisingly, they are the most watched show – number 1 is All Saints, Blue Heelers, Rafters, I don’t remember…- on 7plus. It’s amazing,” she replied.
“I think we all wish we could do that. To be fair though, when we talk about it, is an audience going to commit to watching the same hour of television every single week? I wish they did. But again, unfortunately it’s also a big financial commitment.
“If we could bring back All Saints I know a lot of people who would be very happy. I’m not entirely sure what to do with Georgie (Parker, pictured) because she’s inside Away from home.”
McGauran said Seven is interested in 6- or 8-part local dramas, or alternatively 2 x 90-minute event dramas.
They’re really great to step up our big nights when we have more new shows coming up.
“That said, they’re great if they’re returnable and we’re going to make them the way we’re doing RFDS extension.”
