Rex Hunt health update as he battles depression

Former AFL player and broadcaster Rex Hunt is “not well” and has entered a care facility, according to friend Sam Newman.

On his podcast You can not be serious, Newman said the 74-year-old, who battles bipolar depression, has gone into decline.

“I’ll give you an update on Rex…I’m just telling you seriously…he has since gone into decline and is currently in the care of an institution,” Newman said.

“And it’s not going very well…

“Rex has gone into decline, back into a state of depression, and we wish him well.

“It has a lot to offer. He is a world class and world renowned fisherman…

“People love him and want the best for him.

“He’s a very dear friend and we hope he’ll be back on his feet soon.”

In May the Herald Sun revealed Hunt suffered a mental health crisis in January, spending seven weeks in the Victoria Clinic in Prahran.

Last month, he appeared at Bulleen’s Venetto Club at a dinner that raised awareness of men’s mental health issues.

Hunt hosted Sunday morning AFL panel shows on Seven Network, the Sports world soccer panel, I’m Rex Hunt and you’re not more fishing shows Rex Hunt’s Fishing Worldand 10 Fishing action.
