Singer Shannon Noll was cut from Nine’s State of origin broadcast last night when he was reduced to singing jingles for KFC.
Courier mail reports viewers across the country who had hoped to hear classics like “What About Me?”, “Shine” and “Drive” were “undoubtedly disappointed”.
FOX Sports reported his first song stunned the fans. Noll opened his set with the jingle used by Origin sponsors KFC in their “Fried Night Footy” ads.
The song, called Fried Night Footy Anthem, was written earlier this season by Noll and DZ Deathrays, but left a bad taste in the mouths of some Suncorp fans.
It led to tweets from fans, with viewers angry at the music choice. Also Wide world of sports reported that fans were complaining: “Shannon Noll sings a KFC commercial at Origin must be as low as possible”.
Nine cut him from the broadcast despite prior promotion of an appearance.
Shannon Noll has been confirmed as pre-game entertainer for State of Origin Game II tomorrow night at Suncorp Stadium.

So Nine doesn’t broadcast Shannon Noll’s “performance” because she was singing the sponsor’s theme song. That would be a free ad. But ABC sports radio accidentally did it because they were playing pre-game material. Fun.

@nrl @NRLonNine I don’t pay big bucks for a ticket to source so you can launch your own Friday night football commercial. #shannonnoll #nonfelicejan #origin #nr #qlder #nsw.
