Launch of the wellness guide for the screen sector

Industry advocacy group Screen Well is making available a free guide for screen companies to create a positive wellness culture.

“Wellbeing for Small Business” addresses the challenges of staying abreast of evolving government legislation, industry priorities and best practices.

“The guide contains essential information and easy-to-follow step-by-step procedures for small business owners in our industry to help improve mental health outcomes for their teams and themselves, while helping to meet workplace health and safety legislative obligations,” says Ben Steel, founder of Screen Well.

“As part of developing the guide, our industry consultation and research revealed that: 80% of small businesses in the screen industry lack formal mental health or wellbeing strategies, procedures and interventions. This statistic is alarming and for us, and has highlighted the need for driving.”

Key sections of the guide include:

Why Create a Mentally Safe and Healthy Screen Work Environment?
· Business benefits from improved mental health in the workplace.
· Creating a wellness strategy for your on-screen business.
· Onboarding wellness tips.
· How to conduct a wellness check-in.
· Take care of your well-being.

“Today was the perfect day to launch this free resource as it is World Self Care Day,” she said, “and we have devoted an entire section of the guide to this topic. However, we’ve rewritten the phrase “self-care,” replacing it with “refuel,” which we think is more recognizable to our industry; we all know what happens if the generator on set runs out of fuel – everything stops! It’s the same with individuals, if we run empty and have nothing left in our tank, we run out!

The guide was funded with assistance from Screen Australia, VicScreen and Screen Queensland.
