French police raid Paris 2024 Games headquarters

The Paris office Olympic Games it was raided on Tuesday by French investigators in an investigation into suspected corruption.

The Paris organizing committee said in a statement that a search was underway at their headquarters in the suburb of Saint-Denis and that “Paris 2024 is collaborating with the investigators to facilitate their investigation,” but did not comment further.

An official at the financial prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday the searches were linked to two preliminary investigations related to Paris Olympic Games which had not previously been made public.

The BBC has suggested that police were looking into allegations of favoritism and misuse of public money in awarding building contracts.

Vote-buying allegations related to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and 2021 Tokyo Games had previously removed several International Olympic Committee members from that organization.

According to the newspaper Le Monde, raids also took place at the offices of the public body in charge of Olympic infrastructure, and at the offices of various companies and consultants linked to the organization of the games.

Paris organizers declined to comment.

The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
