Filming is underway in the north east of the UK Vera Season 13 with the first photos of Brenda Blethyn and the return of actor and director David Leon as Joe Ashworth.
Three new feature films also feature Jon Morrison as DC Kenny Lockhart, Riley Jones as DC Mark Edwards, Sarah Kameela Impey as pathologist Dr. Paula Bennett and Rhiannon Clements (Ridley, Hollyoaks) as ambitious new DC Steph Duncan.
In the opening episode, titled Fast loveDCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) is called to a quiet country lane where a young man has been found dead following a car accident. Vera he discovers the victim is a famous market trader, so he heads to his camp to start getting a sense of who the man is.
As the investigation picks up pace, Vera turns out this cheeky chappy was a complex character. Antagonistic, arrogant and capable of getting what he wants, but did all of this come at a price? In addition to the complexity of the case, Vera he is taken aback by the return of Joe Ashworth (David Leon) and is unsure of his motives.

The support from the locals in the North East is truly heartwarming and to be reunited with the talented David Leon and the rest of our outstanding team is an absolute pleasure. Together, we embark on this new chapter with a fantastic screenplay by the brilliant Paul Matthew Thompson.
David Leon said: “I am thrilled to be returning to True. It’s great to be back in the Northeast and reunite with Brenda and crew for the new series. I look forward to exploring the relationship between Joe and True as they make up for lost time.
