Singer Dami Im has won 10’s The Masked Singer in her towering white disguise, Snow Fox.
Dami Im took home the trophy in a Grand Final, leaving Darren Hayes (Grim Reaper) in second place and and Conrad Sewell (Bouncer) in third.
The Eurovision and X Factor star was correctlly identified by Chrissie Swan after incorrect guesses of Samantha Jade (Mel B), Kelly Rowland (Dave Hughes) and Jessie J (Abbie Chatfield).
“It feels amazing to be out (from under the mask). I actually won The X Factor here, on this same stage, exactly 10 years ago. And now I’m back winning this!”
She told Mel B: “I came to Australia when I was nine years old. I didn’t speak a word of English. But I learnt to speak by listening to the Spice Girls songs.”
But the celebrations turned poignant when a tearful Abbie Chatfield -who had correctly identified Darren Hayes- told him early Savage Garden songs such as Affirmation had meant much to her coming out as bisexual.
Hayes, who had just sung Queen’s Who Wants to Live Forever?, shared that his record company did not like him being gay, but singing at Mardi Gras had been part of his own journey to a happier place.
Asked why he decided to take part, he added: “I never thought I’d do this show (and) I’m so glad I did… It’s been like a warm hug, and I really needed that. I’ve had a tough year.”
Third placed Conrad Sewell, correctly guessed by Dave Hughes as Bouncer said, “It was an emotional rollercoaster backstage. Everyone was like, you’re really going to go on a journey. They were right! I had a great time.”
He also announced that in addition to baby son Memphis he and his partner have another baby on the way.
“It’s a little girl next, which is very lovely.”
The Masked Singer returns to 10 in 2024.
