LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIHEAP)
(Taking New Applications Beginning 6/14/10)
The LIHEAP program provides assistance to low-income Native Americans who are enrolled with a Federally-recognized tribe with energy costs. This is a seasonal program and does not operate year round. Heating assistance is administered from November through March for propane, natural gas, wood, or total electric households. Cooling assistance is administered from May through September for electric.
Guidelines
1.) Must have citizenship or CDIB card from a federally-recognized tribe
2.) Must reside within the service area of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation
3.) Must be within income guidelines
4.) Utility service must be on
5.) Must not have received assistance in the past (12) months for the bill in which applying from any community, local, state, federal, or tribal agency
6.) Bills must be in the name of the applicant or spouse
Basic Required Documents
- Citizenship card or CDIB for each member of the household
- Social security card for each member of the household
- Utility Bill
- Income verification
- Additional documents may be required based on individual circumstances
Assistance
- Direct vendor payments for utility expenses. Payments may take up to 45 days to process. Payment amounts will vary each year. Applicants may receive assistance once per season.
